Quel âge as tu ? marié ? des enfants ?
> Joues tu à Clash Of clans ? Si oui, peux tu répondre à toutes ces questions ?
- Quel est ton niveau d'HDV ?
- Quel est ton mode de jeu préféré ?
- Quelle est ta troupe préférée ?
- As tu un clan ?
Hello Darian,
First of all we would like to thank you for participating in this interview for the French community!
The objective of this interview is to introduce you as a CM for the French public who don’t necessarily know you and also as a person like everyone to give us your game habits!
Of course there will be some questions about the future of the game clash of clans as you expect we had to ask you about it!
FIRST PART ABOUT YOU AS A PERSON :
Can you introduce yourself? Where do you live? how old are you? married? children? YOU CAN SAY EVERYTHING YOU WANT ABOUT YOURSELF IN THIS PART THE QUESTIONS ARE JUST HERE TO GUIDE YOU
Hi ! Thank you for this interview. It is always a great opportunity to reach out and talk with our awesome community ! I am Darian Vorlick, one of the Community Managers on Clash of Clans. While I was born in Los Angeles, I moved to Helsinki Finland in 2017 to join the Clash of Clans development team. As far as my age is concerned, well, I do like to keep a few secrets so let’s just say I’m older than I look but younger than I feel. ☺
I am married to an amazing woman. She is actually the one who introduced me to Clash of Clans. She has been playing Clash since the game launched in 2012 and she got me to start playing when we first met in 2015. So it is because of her I now work for Supercell.
Did you play to clash of clans? If its yes can you answer to all theses question
What is your TownHall level?
I have 4 accounts. My main is Town Hall 11, and I am midway through upgrading to TH12. I am hoping to be a max TH11 by the middle of Spring. My other accounts are TH10, TH8, and TH7.
What is your favorite game mode?
I am loving the new War Leagues. My Clan is very competitive but we’re nowhere near as good as some of the best Clans. We only have 3 TH12’s in our Clan so we are happy in our current League level.
What is your favorite troop?
I would have to say my favorite troop is either Bowler or Electro Dragon. I love using Bowlers with my Queen Walk but I also love using Clone with Electro Dragons.
Do you have a clan?
Yes. I am co-leader in my wife’s Clan which has been around for many years. Long time ago they used to be one of the top Clans but over the years many have moved on to other Clans.
Can you introduce it to us?
Supercellians prefer to keep their identities in the game private. While my Clan does know where I work, most of my Clan members are either close friends or family or people I trust.
When did you begin to played?
I started playing June of 2015 when I first met the lady who would eventually become my wife. I was working in PC game development at the time. She would claim she isn’t a gamer but every morning, afternoon, and evening she would log on to her phone to do her War attacks, farming attacks, etc. Eventually my curiosity got the best of me and I downloaded the game and was instantly hooked.
It was around the winter of 2016 when I opened the game and saw the in-game notification stating the Clash team was looking for a new Community Manager. I took a chance and submitted my application and here I am ! It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made…along with marrying my wife. ;-)
How much time do you spend on the game every day? or per week if you don’t play every day?
I probably play about 2 to 3 hours a day during active Clan Wars and Clan Games. During War Leagues, I probably play 3 to 4 hours a day. The rest of the time, I probably play maybe 1 to 2 hours a day. After working on the game all day long, I try to keep myself occupied with other things after work. That way the game always feels exciting to me.
Did you play to an other Game? mobile game or other platform?
I have been a gamer ever since I was very young. I had an Atari 2600 back in 1981. I was the first person in California to have the original NES. Yes, i got the very first one. I built my first PC when I was 12. I have been working in game development since 2006, although I have done some freelance work for games since 1998.
I don’t have a favorite platform. I enjoy playing games on all platforms. I do have a list of favorite games I like to play, but that list is very personal to me for various reasons so let’s just say it’s a very long list of a lot of different types of games.
Do you have other hobbies in your life? movies, photo, sport …
Oh boy…yes I have a ton of hobbies. I have been SCUBA diving since I was 5 years old an got my instructor’s license when I was 14. So I do a lot of diving when I can. I also was a white water rafting guide for a while and also DJ’d at night clubs – I am a huge fan of Trance and Progressive House music.
I have been practicing martial arts (Shotokan) for 34 years and teaching martial arts for 28 of those years but I recently started playing Capoeira, which I absolutely love. I also belonged to a movie stunt team where we did action stunts for various movies and video games. I won’t list the movies but chances are you’ve definitely seen either me or my stunt colleagues.
I love snowboarding, skydiving, boating, gymnastics, rock climbing. Anything that gets my adrenaline going. I’ve also been playing Magic The Gathering since 1994 and have a very large collection. My son just started playing Magic as well so I’ve been having fun showing him how to play and he’s gotten pretty good.
More recently, I have been very active in painting miniature figurines, like Warhammer 40K, D&D etc. I’ve been painting models for about 10 years now.
SECOND PART ABOUT YOU JOB
Can you describe your typical day and what is exactly your job all the year long?
The great thing about working at Supercell is that there is no typical day. Some days I spend a lot of time on our various social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, etc. A large part of my responsibility is to the Clash of Clans official Forums where I am very active in communicating with the players.
A lot of that feedback is then summarized and provided to the Clash game developers as feedback and suggestion. This includes posts from our Ideas & Feature Requests forum as well.
Doing interviews with YouTubers and also doing AMA’s, or producing Community videos is also part of our responsibilities.
I also spend a lot of time traveling to various events around the world. From Clash of Clans tournaments, to our own livestreams, to fan-run events in other countries, as Community Manager, it’s a huge honor to be able to attend these events and meet our fans.
The Community Managers also spend quite a bit of time working with creative partners on producing the various videos for the Troop events or update cinematics.
I also spend quite a bit of time writing in-game text for Clash of Clans. I don’t know if anyone caught the reference to Iron Man 2 in the Town Hall 12 descriptive text. ;-) I also write a lot of the names of the Troop events.
What is the best part of your job?
My absolute favorite part of the job is when I get to announce new content. It’s like giving someone a birthday present or seeing someone open up something on Christmas. I love this game, and being able share our hard work with players who also love this game is one of the greatest feelings. Seeing the excitement build up, watching the videos get posted, and then jumping in to the community discussions always keeps me excited.
Is it a dream for you to work as a CM for Supercell?
It is definitely a dream job. It wasn’t easy getting here, and the road to get here was a long one. But every day I come to work looking forward to each new challenge. Some days are tougher than others, and some days it’s dealing with quite a lot of upset or frustrated feedback. But the way i see it, those angry players are expressing their frustration because they are passionate about the game as well.
How did you get to the post you're holding now?
I saw in-game a notification that the team was looking for a new CM. From what I was told, the post was only up for a few minutes as so many people clicked on it that it crashed the server. So I was lucky to have seen it at the right time !
Do you work in Helsinki all year round? Do you live there? How did you adapt to this new environment as an american?
I permanently live in Helsinki. I do get to travel quite a bit, as I mentioned earlier, but I have a home in Helsinki where I live with my wife and son. We actually love living in Finland. We get to see all 4 seasons go by, the people are friendly, and it’s quite different from living in the fast-paced Hollywood environment of Los Angeles. My wife now works for another mobile game studio and my son goes to an international school in Helsinki, so we have really made this our new home.
You are often exposed to the media. Does this bring you some notoriety? How do you handle that?
This is an interesting question. In person, I can be quite shy. But I love being able to connect with fans. As I said, being able to share game information is the thing I love the most. However, it does bring a lot of attention as well. It’s funny how many requests I get to unlock someone’s account when they message me on my private social media accounts. But I understand it’s part of the job. I feel honored that I get to be the public face and voice of Clash of Clans, and therefore it means I am likely going to be the ones players will want to talk to when they have concerns or ideas.
THIRD PART ABOUT THE GAME
Now Lets talk about the game itself ! We’ve just seen the last uge update with the Clan War league but what will be next???
We definitely don’t want to have a 2 year gap between new content like we did between TH11 and TH12. We are going to be releasing more content much more quickly. Just look at how much content we released over the past 12 months. Starting with Clan Games, we then released BH8, then TH12, then Clan War Leagues. We’ve got one more update this year. Next year will see Operation Blue Skies, BH9, new Town Hall content, and hopefully more. And I don’t see it slowing down. We’re all 110% invested in the future of Clash of Clans and it’s not going anywhere.
On the Reddit AMA you said about the “Operation Blue Skies” that its going to be a dramatic change with how Legend League works ! Does the Cloud problem is the priority of the first half 2019?
Fixing the Cloud issue is definitely our top priority for 2019. We’re going to change how the Legend League works, while still giving players the opportunity to be competitive at those higher tiers. We want to create a fair system that will provide motivation for players to prove how good they are, not how long they can remain online. We aren’t ready to share how this will work just yet, but we’ll start sharing details after the New Year.
Or there is other uge things to come ? like the Builder base 9?
Builder Base 9 is definitely on the agenda for 2019. This isn’t an official announcement, just an obvious next step for the Builder Base. But we do have some additional updates to make the Builder Base more exciting as well. We don’t want to just keep adding new levels ; we want to add some additional dimensions to make it more fun.
We also have lots of new content planned for the Main Village. There will be a TH13 at some point and we will most likely keep adding new TH levels in the future. This is nothing surprising.
The last troop of the main village appear in june 2018 with the TH12 can we expect to have some new one in 2019?
Adding new troops is a challenging thing. We don’t want to add troops just because want something new. It needs to fill a niche that wasn’t filled before. If we see a niche and can add a troop to fill it, then yes, I can see us adding more troops. Or maybe new Heroes ? Or maybe new Spells ? Or new Siege Machines ? Who knows ? You’ll just have to wait and see !
In the last year you use to made Update or release every season ! can we expect to have the same range for 2019?
I can’t say if it will follow the exact same pattern as 2017-2018, but we do want to keep the same level of content coming to Clash. We feel that Clash still has many more years of exciting content to come and we have planned to keep the game running for as long as we are working on it.
About the New update of CWL its appear that there is a uge advantage to have a hammer BUT for all people that are already TH12 full upgrade they will be accumulate a lot of medals during the next month which will allow them to stop farming in cas of TH13 one day. the CWL seem to suppress the fun of the game
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT THIS?
The goal of the Clan War Leagues are to inspire and motivate players to upgrade their villages. We have implemented many new features to help speed up the upgrade process. We’ve reduced upgrade times, discounted upgrade costs, introduced Magic Items, and we’re going to be doing more in the future to help players get their villages to TH12.
With regards to players who are already TH12, we understand that some of these items may not have as many benefits. But we are going to be adding new building levels, new TH levels, new Troops levels in the future. So it is worth it if TH12 players save their League Medals for future content.
What is Supercell's long-term vision for Clash of Clans?
All of our games have a single vision : To create games that players enjoy for many years. Clash has been around for 6 ½ years now and we hope it will keep players entertained for many more years later. Each game team runs independently, with its own team. So even as we release new games like Brawl Stars, the Clash team is still absolutely focused on creating new Clash content.
We do have a wish list of content we would like to create for Clash. More social connectivity, more single player content, better ways to War, etc. But these things take time and we are making sure we can plan out this content as carefully as possible.
Do you have any revelations to offer as a preview to the French community?
Our winter update is going to have a few surprises and our previews of the winter update will start next week so hopefully you guys will be excited when we start sharing those previews. We’ve got new Magic Items coming, and a couple other new interesting things that we haven’t announced yet.
Thank you darian for the time you given us to answer all our questions! Would you like to add a word for the French community to finish this interview?
Thank you to the French community for all the support and passion you show for Clash of Clans. When I visited Paris for the 2018 Clash Cup event, I was absolutely blown away by the dedication and enthusiasm from the players, streamers, and promoters. It’s because of players like you that we keep making new Clash content.
First of all we would like to thank you for participating in this interview for the French community!
